DONOVAN - THREE KING FISHERS: SELECTED TRACK 1965-69
Donovan's heyday was the second half of the sixties, as was mine, and I enjoyed his work at the time, so it was only natural for me to want to make a compilation of my favourites
Following my usual methodology, I listened to all Donovan's 1960s recordings, carefully chose the ones that best suited my purpose, avoiding songs that appeared on 1969's Donovan's Greatest Hits, put them in the most effective order and made a cover.
When I listened to the finished compilation, I was amazed at how evocative it was of the period. I was reminded very strongly of what it was like to be young at that point in history - a bittersweet experience. We sometimes forget how powerful music can be.
If 1965-69 was your heyday too, and you want to spend a little time back there, or if you are a younger viewer and want to get a sense of what it was like to be around then, this compilation will do the trick.
So arrange your tasseled middle-eastern cushions just so, light some joss sticks, or whatever else takes your fancy, and tell the tawdry and tedious present to do one for 48 minutes while you listen to your past.
